Section 1: Continued

Opportunity for Self-inquiry and sharing:

As we start out on this journey to higher consciousness together, it is appropriate for each of us to pause and ask ourselves what higher consciousness means for us personally at this time, then set our intention to attain this state. It is suggested, in order to further concretize your intention, to write your statement out and keep it somewhere you can see it regularly. You may even choose to frame it.

As we progress through this Course, we may feel the need to go back to this question, ask it again, and see if our personal understanding of higher consciousness has changed in any way. If so, why and how?

This ends Section One.

The next section of the Course will be posted next week.

To me right now, higher consciousness means 'realizing' my true power - my interconnectedness with all things, eternal.

In this state of being, I must not think, I must act. I am being called, like everyone is, to the service of the greater good of all people. I seek to make connections with everyone and everything around me, and always appreciate in a new way, all the blessings and insights that life offers me. I live in a state of gratitude. I see the potential in myself, everyone, and everything. My mantra is Truth, Joy, and Love.

Presently, I am over-joyed by the sharing of so many people.

What does higher consciousness mean to me? To begin to awaken, to begin to "see" the unseen behind the seen.

Corinatan's picture

Divine love and joy as my centre, and living and being through that centre. The acceptance of all that comes and loving all that comes. sharing that love and joy with all those around me.

A new day has dawned and peace and happiness surround me once more. I am able to think better and therefore create a goal for myself to attain Higher Consciousness.

What does higher consciousness means for me personally at this time?

For me, to live in a state of higher consciousness would be to live in the moment and be aware of my energy at that moment. Be so aware as to not waste my energy on meaningless things like worry or fear and to move forward to live my life to help others.

To obtain a state of higher consciousness through meditation in order to see clearly where my energies are needed and to accept what I can and can not offer at that moment without imposing impossible expectations on myself.

To be free to love and be loved and to be aware of the essence of my life.
Namaste.

Trying to live my life in higher consciousness does not come easy to me. Questions about who I am and what I am supposed to be and where I am expected to be clouds my mine, yet I continue to move. Questions about why and how and what is the truth confuse me and fill me with fear. Not having enough, having too much, where is the common ground for all who love life yet pain is all around.

Struggling to meditate to bring myself to this place of higher consciousness, not knowing if I have even touched the feeling or being of higher consciousness. Not being able to fall asleep until I have thought a million thoughts and wonder where they come from and why I can't ignore or better yet not have them.

This course jumped out at me as if pulling me in and saying I just might find the answer here but knowing that the answer is within me, if only I might find it some day.

After reading many comments, I wonder, as usual, am I good enough to participate in this course and sadness takes over. Emotions, yes, I have emotions, but feelings, do I have feelings?

To live my life in higher consciousness, being conscious of the moment, seems almost impossible, yet I know it is possible. But how, with so much going on around us, how can I ignore these things and live my life in higher consciousness?

Living free of expectations, I really get that. Living free of fear, guilt, and wishing the world was a better place for all to live in, that I don't get. Praying that children everywhere were safe and warm with enough food to eat, and wondering why they are not. That is what I battle everyday because I can not do something about that with my own resources and it seems no matter how much people give it is never enough to change these things.

This is why I need this course. I have been on a journey for higher consciousness and seem to be going round and round in circles. Perhaps this course will help me smooth out the road so that I can journey in the present and find the peace that I so desperately want.

Higher consciousness is the abode I seek to be alive to 24/7 where I sense the peace like a river, love like and ocean, and joy like a fountain all eternally maintained by the Present One in me.

Higher consciousness means being present in the only moment we have in life which is now.

Bill Carpenter's picture

For me higher consciousness is about balancing my perception of the worlds of form and non form; balance between my physical and spiritual needs. We exist in both worlds and to pursue one at the expense of the other puts me out of balance. Although we learn and grow through evaluation, judging and comparing, these same acts can limit us. Mother Theresa I feel has achieved this balance. She reached out to soothe and heal a hurting physical world while at the same time keeping in touch with her spiritual world. God gave us a mind to change our circumstances and situations if they are harmful to us. Although I have known Eckhart and follow his teachings, I believe he is following the world of non form at the expense of the world of form. This only makes sense if one considers the world of form as an illusion which I do not.

roronji's picture

I am new to the blog and am really enjoying the different perceptions people have about consciousness.I would like pratice to go into the present and am considering starting with dvds for that.any specific ones you can recommend?

David Robert Ord's picture

Perhaps the answer here is that the worlds of form and no form are not separate in any way, but a seamless reality. I never think of them as separate, and I know Eckhart enjoys his life in form. For me spirituality is a way of living a life in form, not a separate matter. It's about living consciously, fully present, in everything. So i never ask whether I am being spiritual or not, in form or not in form, but relax into whatever life is inviting me to do at any given time without analyzing. Am wondering how you see this as you have progressed further through the Journey to Higher Consciousness.

Higher consciousness is an experience of Being; my Human-Ego-Being is One with my Soul-Energy-Being it is a Thought-Free State of just Being; peaceful and purposeful.

David Robert Ord's picture

Being without thought is marvelous, isn't it? Truly, peaceful and purposeful.

To no longer be dominated by my ego, which makes me and others around me miserable. I will start there. The inspiring stuff can wait while I am real and honest with myself about how I am imprisoned by my ego.

Or perhaps I should just have written, "What Pilgrim said."

MARGARET's picture

At this moment higher consciousness means to me: being in a state of mind that allows me to see myself for what I truly am. That I can look at 'me' and see the whole complete me, from inside to outside, and understand my true purpose, and understand that I am and we all are part of something much, much larger than we can ever perceive and realize that all the things that happen on a day to day basis in our lives; death, pain, growing old, being hurt by others etc., nothing compares to the real purpose of life. And this state of higher consciousness will allow us to look at others in the same way, deeply from the inside out and have a new understanding of the people we know and meet everyday and through this new state of mind be able to appreciate life and its true purpose, by seeing beyond the small stuff and the all too obvious outer shells.

David Robert Ord's picture

A wonderful comment Margaret. How are you finding the rest of the course so far in terms of helping you in this?

Pilgrim's picture

A return to sanity.

Ruth's picture

If you were once sane, that's a pretty impressive beginning ;-)

Pilgrim's picture

I don't know if we are all born with egos. What I do know is that one of my earliest memories is one of completeness. I must have been 2 or 3 and my mother was holding me and rocking me in a rocking chair. At that moment I remember feeling totally at peace, totally accepted, unconditionally loved. I'm sure that even then my ego was starting to form. Over the years, as the conditions for love increased, that feeling was forgotten and the nightmare of ego domination took over.

Higher Consciousness means to me a state of complete awareness. It is living life whole without judgement or resistance. In Eckhart's words "Everything is honored but nothing matters"

Larry's picture

I want to feel at peace with all creation. We have a lot of issues with family, people, and situations. Higher consciousness is love and acceptance of all that we experience in the presence. Being in lower consciousness with the judgement of family, co-workers, etc. is not where we want to be any more. Life is much better in the present with your thoughts constantly moving toward all things that are good and wholesome.

To me higher consciousness means the source that gives life to the entire universe which of course includes my own body. That is what is called by God by some and called Presence Now, spaciousness etc by Tolle.
